How to Transfer Money from PayPal to Your Bank Account (2026)
To transfer money from PayPal to your bank account, link and confirm the account, open your balance and choose Transfer to bank. A standard transfer is free when no currency conversion is involved. The catches are the US Instant Transfer fee, PayPal's exchange rate on foreign balances and the rules on where the money can go.
This guide shows how to withdraw money from PayPal on the website and in the app, in the US and the UK, with the fees, timings and limits PayPal publishes. It also covers what to do when a withdrawal fails, and how to move PayPal money to a bank in another country without paying PayPal's spread.
If you are still waiting for money to arrive, our guide to receiving money on PayPal covers that side. Everything here starts once the money is sitting in your balance.
Compare the Cost Before You Move PayPal Money Abroad
If the money in your PayPal balance is going to end up in another country, the withdrawal is only half the cost. Enter the amount and destination to see what Wise, Remitly and Xe would deliver today. As the guide shows further down, the cheapest route is usually to withdraw at home first and send the money with a specialist.
How to Transfer Money From PayPal to Your Bank Account
To transfer money from PayPal to your bank account, go to Wallet on the website or tap your balance in the app, choose Transfer Money, then the bank option, pick Standard or Instant and confirm. The bank account must be linked and confirmed first, and it must take your PayPal account's own currency.
Link and Confirm Your Bank Account First
You can only withdraw to a bank account PayPal has confirmed. In the US, go to Wallet, click Link a card or bank, then Link a bank account, and find your bank in the list. Logging in with your online banking details confirms the account instantly. If you enter the account details by hand instead, PayPal sends two small deposits of $0.01 to $0.99 within three business days, and you confirm the account by typing in the exact amounts.
In the UK you can also log in to your bank to confirm it instantly, or add the sort code and account number manually. PayPal then pays in 1p with a four-digit code next to it on your statement, which usually shows up within minutes and at most two hours, and you enter the code in your Wallet. Our guide to what a sort code is shows where to find yours.
Before linking, check that the name on the bank account matches the name on your PayPal account. PayPal's UK help gives the example of a James Patrick Smith whose bank account is in the name of J P Smith: he should enter J P as his first name, or the transfer could fail.
How Do I Withdraw Money From PayPal on the Website?
On paypal.com the route is the same in both countries, with slightly different wording on the bank option.
- Log in and go to Wallet.
- Click Transfer Money.
- Click Transfer to your bank in the US, or Withdraw from PayPal to your bank account in the UK.
- Choose Instant or Standard. In the UK both are free; in the US only Standard is.
- Enter the amount, follow the instructions and confirm.
PayPal takes any fee out of the amount you withdraw rather than charging it on top, so a $500 instant transfer from a US account lands as $491.25. Check the bank and the amount before you confirm, because PayPal's US and UK help pages both say a withdrawal cannot be cancelled once it is submitted.
How to Withdraw Money From PayPal in the App
In the PayPal app, tap your PayPal balance, then Transfer Money (Transfer in the US app), then Transfer to bank, and follow the instructions. The US app shows the two speeds by what they cost: in minutes with a fee, or in 1 to 3 days with no fee. Pick one, enter the amount and tap Transfer Now.
If the bank you want is not offered, add it in your Wallet first and confirm it as described above. In the US, the small-deposit check can take up to three business days, so log in to your bank instead if you need the money soon.
Other Ways to Receive Funds From PayPal
A bank transfer is not the only way out. In the US you can also transfer funds from PayPal to an eligible Visa, Mastercard or Discover debit card, request a paper check, or take cash from an ATM with the PayPal Debit Card. In the UK, PayPal pays out to any eligible Visa or Mastercard debit or prepaid card, which it says takes about 30 minutes.
A paper check costs $1.50 if you have no linked PayPal Balance account, takes 5 to 10 business days, needs at least $1.51 and cannot go to a PO box. The PayPal Debit Card lets you take out up to $400 a day at ATMs, free at MoneyPass machines in the US and $2.50 at others, plus any fee the ATM operator adds. For most people the bank remains the cheapest way to receive funds from PayPal.
Standard vs PayPal Instant Transfer: Fees and Timings
A standard transfer to your bank is free in both countries when no conversion is involved, and takes 1 to 3 business days in the US or 3 to 5 working days in the UK. PayPal Instant Transfer arrives within about 30 minutes. It costs 1.75 percent in the US, from $0.25 up to $25, and nothing in the UK.
Way to withdraw | US account | UK account | Typical time |
|---|---|---|---|
Standard transfer to a bank | Free | Free | US: usually 1 business day, up to 3. UK: 3 to 5 working days |
Instant transfer to a bank or debit card | 1.75%, minimum $0.25, maximum $25 | Free | Minutes, up to 30 |
Standard transfer to a debit card | Free, eligible Visa debit cards only | Not offered | Within 48 hours |
Paper check | $1.50 without a linked PayPal Balance account | Not listed | 5 to 10 business days |
PayPal Debit Card at an ATM | Free at MoneyPass ATMs, $2.50 at others | Not listed | Immediate, up to $400 a day |
Fees from PayPal's US consumer fee page (last updated 19 May 2026) and UK consumer fee page (last updated 22 January 2026), timings from PayPal's US and UK help pages on withdrawals, all checked 5 November 2026. Fees apply when no currency conversion is involved.
How to Transfer Money From PayPal to Your Bank Account Instantly
Choose Instant at the last step instead of Standard. PayPal only lists the banks and debit cards that can take an instant payment and says the list keeps growing, so if your bank is missing, a linked debit card is the usual fallback. In the US the eligible cards are Visa, Mastercard and Discover debit cards; in the UK, Visa or Mastercard debit and prepaid cards.
PayPal says an instant transfer typically takes a few minutes and puts the outer limit at 30 minutes. In the US it suggests contacting your bank if the money has not arrived after about half an hour, and warns that some banks take 1 to 3 business days to settle a card withdrawal on their side.
What PayPal Instant Transfer Costs in the US
The US fee is 1.75 percent of the amount you move, never less than $0.25 and never more than $25. The cap kicks in at about $1,429, so in percentage terms the fee bites hardest on everyday withdrawals.
Amount withdrawn | Instant fee | Reaches your bank | Standard fee |
|---|---|---|---|
$10 | $0.25 (minimum) | $9.75 | Free |
$100 | $1.75 | $98.25 | Free |
$500 | $8.75 | $491.25 | Free |
$1,000 | $17.50 | $982.50 | Free |
$2,000 | $25.00 (maximum) | $1,975.00 | Free |
$10,000 | $25.00 | $9,975.00 | Free |
Calculated from PayPal's US consumer fee page, checked 5 November 2026. PayPal deducts the fee from the amount withdrawn. Instant transfers to a debit card are capped at $5,000 per transaction, so the $10,000 row applies to an eligible bank account only.
A seller who instant-withdraws $500 every week pays $455 a year for the speed, while a standard transfer costs nothing. A PayPal instant transfer is worth paying for when the money is needed today, not as a habit.
How Long a Standard PayPal Withdrawal Takes
In the US, PayPal says a standard transfer to a bank is typically completed within one business day but can take one to three, and a standard transfer to an eligible Visa debit card within 48 hours. A request made after 7pm Eastern, at a weekend or on a holiday may take an extra day.

PayPal UK quotes three to five working days for a standard transfer and says it can take longer depending on the bank's clearance process. Because the UK instant option is free, a standard PayPal withdrawal only makes sense for UK users whose bank or card is not eligible for instant payment.
Why a PayPal Withdrawal Can Take Longer
Most delays come from four things: a first withdrawal to a newly linked bank, a security review on PayPal's side, a weekend or bank holiday, and the receiving bank's own processing. PayPal reviews every transfer and says any of them can be delayed or stopped if it identifies an issue. Our guide to why PayPal transfers take so long covers each cause and what speeds things up.
Withdrawing a Foreign Currency Balance From PayPal
PayPal will not pay a foreign currency balance into your bank as it is. A US account can only withdraw US dollars and a UK account only pounds, so PayPal converts the balance first at its own rate: a 3 percent spread on the US schedule, and an unpublished transaction exchange rate on UK personal accounts.
Why PayPal Converts Before It Pays Out
PayPal's US user agreement says you may only withdraw funds in US dollars, so any other balance is either converted by you first or converted for you at the time of the withdrawal. The UK agreement says you may only withdraw in the opening currency of your account unless PayPal agrees otherwise, and that its transaction exchange rate is used to convert.
That is where money received from abroad quietly loses value. If a friend in Germany sends you euros and you accept them as euros, receiving them is free, but moving them to your bank triggers the conversion. PayPal's UK help says it plainly: if you withdraw money from a foreign currency balance, there will be a conversion fee.
What the Conversion Costs on a $1,000 or €1,000 Balance
On a US account, converting a balance or withdrawing in another currency falls under all other transactions in PayPal's fee table, at a 3 percent spread. On €1,000, worth $1,122.45 at the mid-market rate on 5 November 2026, that is about $34 kept by PayPal before the money reaches your bank.
Balance in PayPal | Account | Worth at mid-market | PayPal conversion | Converted with Wise instead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
€1,000 | US | $1,122.45 | About $34 (3% spread) | €4.68 fee (0.47%), $1,117.20 received |
$1,000 | UK | £743.08 | Not published for personal accounts; about £22 at 3% | $3.29 fee (0.33%), £740.64 received |
Mid-market rates and Wise's fees for converting a held balance from Wise's public price list, collected 5 November 2026. PayPal figures are estimates: 3 percent is the US personal spread for these conversions and the rate PayPal UK charges business accounts above its base rate. PayPal UK publishes no percentage for personal accounts.
PayPal UK charges business accounts 3 percent above its base rate to convert a balance, but for personal accounts it only points to its user agreement and a currency converter tool. On the sending quotes behind our guide to PayPal international transfer fees, its rates sat 4.2 to 4.7 percent below mid-market on pound routes.

The spread never appears as a separate line, because it sits inside the rate. To see it, divide what PayPal says your bank will receive by the balance you are converting, and compare the result with the mid-market rate at the same moment. Our explainer on the exchange rate markup walks through that calculation with real numbers.
Converting the Balance First Does Not Save Money
Some people convert a foreign balance in the app before they withdraw, hoping for a better rate. On a US account it makes no difference, because converting a balance and withdrawing in another currency fall under the same 3 percent line. The only ways round it are to withdraw in the currency your PayPal account already uses, or to have foreign money paid somewhere else in the first place.
If you get paid from abroad, check the setting that decides whether a payment lands in your own currency or a foreign one. Our guide on how to avoid PayPal fees walks through those settings one by one.
Where Is the Cheapest Place to Withdraw PayPal Money?
The cheapest place to withdraw PayPal money is a confirmed bank account in your PayPal account's own currency, by standard transfer: free in the US and the UK. In the UK, Instant is free too. Costs appear when you pay for US Instant Transfer, convert a foreign balance or send a UK balance to a US bank.
Way to withdraw | US account | UK account |
|---|---|---|
Standard transfer to your own bank, same currency | Free | Free |
Instant transfer | 1.75%, $0.25 to $25 | Free |
Withdrawing a foreign currency balance | 3% spread | PayPal's transaction rate, no published percentage |
Withdrawing dollars to a US bank account | Free (it is your local bank) | 3% |
Paper check | $1.50 without a linked Balance account | Not listed |
Failed withdrawal returned by the bank | No fee | £0.50 |
From PayPal's US and UK consumer fee pages, checked 5 November 2026.
Withdraw in the Currency Your Bank Account Uses
The single biggest saving is keeping conversions out of the withdrawal. If your balance is already in dollars on a US account, or in pounds on a UK account, a standard transfer costs nothing at all. Our full breakdown of PayPal fees lists every other charge on the US and UK schedules.

If you hold several currencies, withdraw only the one that matches your bank, and leave the others until you can spend them in that currency or move them somewhere that converts at the mid-market rate.
Can a Wise Account Receive a PayPal Withdrawal?
Yes, in most cases. Wise's help centre says you can move money from PayPal to Wise when PayPal supports your local currency and Wise offers local account details for it. Wise does not appear in PayPal's bank list, so you choose Manually add your bank account and type in your Wise details: USD details for a US PayPal account, GBP details for a UK one.
There are three conditions. PayPal only accepts account details in the same country as your PayPal account, so a UK PayPal account can link Wise's GBP details but not its USD details. Payments for goods, services or freelance work count as business payments, which Wise says belong in a Wise Business account. And some customers report trouble linking Wise USD details, in which case Wise suggests linking the Wise card instead, warning that PayPal may charge for card withdrawals: in the US, that is the 1.75 percent instant fee.
Wise: Hold the Money and Convert at the Mid-Market Rate
Wise9.5Once the money is in Wise, you can hold it, spend it on the Wise card or convert it at the mid-market rate with one visible fee. Converting $1,000 to pounds from a Wise balance cost $3.29 on 5 November 2026, and €1,000 to dollars cost €4.68. Receiving dollars, pounds and euros on local account details is free, with a fixed fee only for wire and SWIFT payments, such as $6.11 for an incoming US wire.
That makes Wise the natural next stop for PayPal money that has to change currency or cross a border. PayPal charges around 3 to 4 percent above the mid-market rate. Wise charges a small fixed fee with no markup. Our Wise review covers the account, the card and the limits in full.
How to Move PayPal Money to a Bank in Another Country
PayPal only lets you withdraw to a bank in your PayPal account's country, in its currency, with one exception: a UK account can withdraw dollars to a US bank for 3 percent. The cheap way abroad is to withdraw free at home, then send: £1,000 to euros cost £3.81 with Wise against £45.20 through PayPal.
Can I Transfer Money From PayPal to My Bank Account Abroad?
Not directly. A US account withdraws only US dollars, to a US bank account or card. A UK account withdraws pounds to a UK bank, or dollars to a US bank account for a 3 percent fee, and PayPal's UK schedule warns that withdrawing to a bank account or a card may not be possible in every market.
Wise's help centre describes the same limit from the other side: PayPal requires you to link account details in the same country as your PayPal account. So if you have moved abroad and kept your old PayPal account, the bank you can withdraw to is still a bank back home. Our guide to receiving money from abroad explains how foreign currency account details work.
Withdraw First, Then Send
Sending a balance abroad from inside PayPal is the expensive route, because PayPal adds its international fee and converts at a spread of about 4 percent. Withdrawing at home costs nothing, and a specialist then converts at or near the mid-market rate. These were the totals on the same day for 1,000 sent to a bank account:
Route, 1,000 sent | Sent through PayPal | Withdrawn, then Wise | Withdrawn, then Remitly | Withdrawn, then Xe |
|---|---|---|---|---|
US dollars to euros | $46.10 | $5.47 | $9.22 | $18.87 |
Pounds to euros | £45.20 | £3.81 | £10.51 | £8.34 |
US dollars to Mexican pesos | $45.18 | $7.67 | $11.06 | $6.17 |
Pounds to US dollars | £49.49 | £4.60 | £18.96 | £8.23 |
Total cost of 1,000 sent to a bank account, the fee plus the gap to the mid-market rate, collected 5 November 2026 for our guide to PayPal international transfer fees. Specialist totals assume a free standard withdrawal to your own bank first. Wise from the US by ACH bank debit, from the UK by bank transfer; first-transfer offers excluded.
On these routes the cheapest two-step option saved $39 to $41, or £41 to £45, on every 1,000 sent. If you link Wise account details to PayPal, the second step happens from your Wise balance with no bank payment to wait for: $1,000 to euros sent from a Wise balance cost $3.42 on the same day. Our PayPal vs Wise comparison sets the two side by side in more detail.

The extra step costs time rather than money. In the US a standard withdrawal takes one to three business days before the money is in your bank and ready to send, so start early if the payment abroad has a deadline. In the UK, the free instant withdrawal removes most of that wait.
Remitly for Money Going to Family
Remitly8.5If the money is going to family, especially as cash or into a mobile wallet, Remitly is the specialist built for that job. It pays out to bank accounts, cash pickup points and mobile wallets, and on our 5 November quotes it was the cheapest option of all on $1,000 to British pounds, at $1.84 against $46.37 through PayPal.
It was weaker on euros at $9.22, still about a fifth of PayPal's price, and it refunds its fees if a transfer arrives later than promised. Our Remitly review has its fees and delivery times route by route.
Xe for Large Balances
For a large balance, such as the proceeds of a sale or a business payout, the exchange rate does almost all the damage. Xe charged no transfer fee on our 1,000 quotes and was the cheapest of all on dollars to Mexican pesos, at $6.17 against $45.18 through PayPal. On $10,000 to Mexico, PayPal cost $408.72 against $16.44 with Xe.
Xe allows up to $535,000 per online transfer from the US and £350,000 from the UK, and for larger senders its team can set up forward orders that lock a rate for up to 24 months. PayPal's own withdrawal limits apply first. Our Xe review covers its limits and rate tools.
PayPal Withdrawal Limits and First-Time Verification
PayPal publishes limits for instant and card withdrawals only: in the US, $25,000 per instant transfer to a bank and $5,000 a day to a debit card; in the UK, £1,500 per transaction and £7,500 a day to a card. Standard withdrawal limits are set per account, and verifying your account can raise them.
Limit | US account | UK account |
|---|---|---|
Instant transfer to a bank, per transaction | $25,000 | Not published |
Debit card, per transaction | $5,000 | £1,500 |
Debit card, per day, week and month | $5,000, $5,000 and $15,000 | £7,500 each |
Smallest instant transfer to a card | $1 | £1 |
Cash from the PayPal Debit Card at ATMs | $400 a day | Not listed |
Smallest paper check | $1.51 | Not listed |
From PayPal's US fee page and its US and UK help pages on Instant Transfer, debit card withdrawals and the PayPal Debit Card, checked 5 November 2026. US card limits cover standard and instant transfers.
How Much You Can Withdraw From PayPal
Both user agreements say PayPal may set limits on your withdrawals, and the UK agreement says you can see yours by logging in. The US agreement adds that verifying your account may allow higher limits. For a large balance, check your own limit before you plan around it.
The card limits are the tightest. A US seller moving $20,000 by PayPal instant transfer needs an eligible bank rather than a card, and pays the $25 maximum fee for it. A UK user can move at most £1,500 per instant transfer to a card and £7,500 in a month, so larger sums go to a bank account.
Verifying Your Bank and Identity the First Time
The first PayPal withdrawal is where most people get stuck. Linking a bank is only half of it: the account has to be confirmed, by logging in to your bank or through the small-deposit check, and in the UK PayPal also asks you to accept a Direct Debit mandate before the bank can be used for payments. To transfer to a debit card in the UK, your email address must be confirmed first.
PayPal may also need to confirm who you are. In the US it says it is under a legal obligation to confirm your identity before you can hold money in your PayPal balance, the same as other financial institutions.
Why PayPal Holds Some Withdrawals
Both user agreements let PayPal delay a withdrawal in certain situations, for example when it needs to confirm that you authorised it, or when a payment into your account has been reversed through a chargeback or dispute. If your account is limited or has a negative balance, you have to submit the withdrawal again once the problem is resolved.
In the US, a withdrawal that is still in a security check shows as Pending Review in your Activity, and PayPal emails you if it needs anything from you.
What to Do If a PayPal Withdrawal Fails or Is Reversed
A withdrawal that fails because of wrong or incomplete bank details comes back to your PayPal balance, usually within a week. PayPal's US schedule charges nothing for the return, while UK users pay £0.50. A withdrawal cannot be cancelled once you submit it, so the fix is to correct the details and send it again.
Wrong Details, a Name Mismatch or a Closed Account
Most failures start with the bank details. A typo in the account number, a name that does not match your PayPal account, or a bank account you have since closed will all make the receiving bank send the money back. PayPal says the bank tells it about a problem within one week of your request, and it emails you when it hears.
Check the account in your Wallet before you try again, remove old or closed accounts, and match the name exactly as it appears on your bank statement. Our guide to money sent to a closed account explains what happens on the bank's side and how long a return usually takes.
Completed but Not in Your Bank
A Completed status means PayPal has processed the withdrawal and sent it out, not that your bank has credited it. In the US, give a standard transfer the full one to three business days, longer over a weekend or holiday, and an instant transfer about 30 minutes, before you contact your bank.
In the UK, PayPal says it may still take a few days for the amount to appear, depending on your bank's clearance process. If the money is late beyond the quoted time, start with your bank, because PayPal's part is already done and the bank can trace the incoming payment.
Can You Cancel or Reverse a PayPal Withdrawal?
No. PayPal's US and UK help pages both say a withdrawal cannot be cancelled once it is made. If it has not completed yet, PayPal suggests asking your bank whether it can reverse the transaction, which depends on the bank's own policies. If it has completed, wait for it to land and add the money back to PayPal from your bank if you need it there.
Should You Leave Money in PayPal at All?
For money in your own currency, PayPal is a fine place to receive and a free place to withdraw from, as long as you use a standard transfer. For money in another currency, or money going abroad, PayPal's spread makes it one of the most expensive routes, and a Wise account does the job for far less.
PayPal: Our Rating
PayPal6.0Our rating scores PayPal well on safety and reach, and low on cost wherever a currency conversion is involved. Withdrawing in your own currency is free; converting costs 3 percent on a US account and more when PayPal converts a payment you send abroad. Our PayPal review explains each score.
When Keeping a PayPal Balance Makes Sense
If you sell online or get paid by friends in your own currency, keeping a working balance in PayPal for purchases and refunds is reasonable, and a standard withdrawal of the rest costs nothing. UK users can take money out instantly for free, which removes most of the reason to leave large sums sitting there.
Getting Paid Outside PayPal
If most of what lands in your PayPal account is in another currency, the cheapest withdrawal is the one you never need. Giving clients or family your Wise account details in their currency lets them pay you by an ordinary domestic transfer, and you convert at the mid-market rate when you choose. Our guide to PayPal alternatives for freelancers compares the options for people paid by overseas clients.
Bottom Line
To transfer money from PayPal to your bank account for nothing, link and confirm an account in your name, withdraw in your PayPal account's own currency and choose Standard, or Instant in the UK, where it is free. In the US, Instant costs 1.75 percent, up to $25, and is only worth it when the money is needed the same day.
The expensive mistakes are converting a foreign balance on the way out, about 3 percent on a US account, and sending money abroad from inside PayPal, which cost about $46 or £45 on 1,000 on our quotes. Withdraw at home first, then convert or send with Wise, and the same 1,000 costs a few dollars or pounds.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I withdraw money from PayPal to my bank account?
On the website, go to Wallet, click Transfer Money, then Transfer to your bank in the US or Withdraw from PayPal to your bank account in the UK, choose Standard or Instant and confirm. In the app, tap your PayPal balance, then Transfer Money and Transfer to bank. The bank account has to be linked and confirmed first, in your name and in your PayPal account's currency. A standard transfer is free when no conversion is involved.
Can I transfer money from PayPal to my bank account for free?
Yes. A standard transfer to your own linked bank account is free in the US and the UK when no currency conversion is involved. In the UK the instant option is free too, while a US instant transfer costs 1.75 percent, from $0.25 to $25. You only pay when PayPal converts a foreign balance, when a UK account withdraws to a US bank at 3 percent, or for extras such as a paper check.
Can you transfer money from PayPal to your bank account instantly?
Yes, if your bank or debit card is eligible. Choose Instant instead of Standard at the last step, and the money typically arrives within minutes, at most about 30. In the US, PayPal Instant Transfer costs 1.75 percent of the amount, at least $0.25 and at most $25, and goes up to $25,000 per transaction to a bank or $5,000 to a card. In the UK it is free, with card withdrawals capped at £1,500 per transaction.
How long does a PayPal withdrawal take?
In the US, PayPal says a standard withdrawal to a bank is typically completed within one business day and can take one to three, while a standard transfer to an eligible Visa debit card takes up to 48 hours. PayPal UK quotes three to five working days for a standard transfer. Instant transfers in both countries usually take minutes, up to 30. Weekends, holidays and requests after 7pm Eastern in the US can add a day.
Where is the cheapest place to withdraw PayPal money?
The cheapest place to withdraw PayPal money is your own bank account in your PayPal account's currency, by standard transfer, which is free in the US and the UK. Avoid withdrawing a foreign currency balance, which PayPal converts at a 3 percent spread on US accounts. If the money will be converted or sent abroad anyway, withdraw it free first and use a specialist such as Wise, which converts at the mid-market rate for a small fee.
Can I withdraw money from PayPal to a Wise account?
In most cases, yes. Wise does not appear in PayPal's bank list, so you choose to add a bank manually and enter your Wise account details: USD details for a US PayPal account, GBP details for a UK one. PayPal only accepts account details in the same country as your PayPal account. Wise says payments for goods, services or freelance work should go to a Wise Business account, and suggests linking the Wise card if USD details will not link.
How do I receive funds from PayPal in a bank in another country?
PayPal does not let you withdraw to a bank outside your PayPal account's country, apart from UK accounts withdrawing dollars to a US bank for 3 percent. The cheap way to receive funds from PayPal abroad is to withdraw them free to a bank or Wise account at home, then send them with a specialist. On 5 November 2026, £1,000 to euros cost £3.81 that way with Wise, against £45.20 sent through PayPal.
Can I transfer funds from PayPal without a bank account?
Yes, with some limits. In the US you can transfer funds from PayPal to an eligible debit card, request a paper check for $1.50 if you have no linked PayPal Balance account, or take up to $400 a day in cash with the PayPal Debit Card. In the UK, PayPal pays out to eligible Visa or Mastercard debit and prepaid cards, usually in about 30 minutes. A bank account is still the simplest and cheapest option.
Why did my PayPal withdrawal fail or come back?
Most failed withdrawals come from wrong or incomplete bank details, a name that does not match your PayPal account, or a bank account that has been closed. The bank tells PayPal within a week and the money returns to your PayPal balance. PayPal's US schedule charges no fee for a returned withdrawal, while UK users pay £0.50. Correct the details in your Wallet and submit the withdrawal again, because a withdrawal cannot be cancelled once made.
How much money can I withdraw from PayPal at once?
PayPal sets withdrawal limits per account, and verifying your account may allow higher ones. The published limits cover instant and card withdrawals: in the US, $25,000 per instant transfer to a bank and $5,000 per transaction, per day and per week to a debit card, with $15,000 a month. In the UK, card withdrawals are capped at £1,500 per transaction and £7,500 a day, week or month.
