Remitly Review 2026 - Is Remitly Safe, Legit and Worth It?

Mohammad HumaidOctober 21, 202622 min readAffiliate disclosureAffiliate links on this page may earn us a commission. This never influences the opinions and ratings of our editors.

Remitly is one of the biggest names in remittances. Customers sent $74.9 billion through it in 2025, and it had 9.3 million active customers at the end of the year. It was built for one job: getting money from people working abroad to their families back home, quickly and cheaply.

Size alone does not tell you whether it is right for your transfer. So this Remitly review answers the questions that matter before you send: Is Remitly safe? Is Remitly legit? What do Remitly fees and exchange rates really cost, and how long does a transfer take?

We priced live transfers on five major routes, read the Remitly user agreement and checked its licences with regulators in the US, UK and EU. Our verdict is 8.5 out of 10. Remitly is excellent value on some routes, average on others, and the quotes show which is which.

If you are wondering whether Remitly is legit or just well marketed, you are in the right place.

Remitly Review: Pros and Cons

Remitly is strongest where most remittances go: India, the Philippines, Pakistan and other high-volume routes where it competes hard on price. Its weaknesses show up on a few corridors where its exchange rate margin is wider than rivals, and on card-funded Express transfers where fees add up.

  • Very competitive rates on big remittance routes such as USD to INR and GBP to INR, often within 0.3% of the mid-market rate
  • Two delivery speeds: Remitly Express in minutes, or the cheaper Remitly Economy
  • Delivery promise: if a transfer arrives after the time shown, Remitly refunds its fees
  • Licensed in every US state, authorised by the FCA in the UK and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland in the EU
  • Sends to 175+ countries with bank deposit, cash pickup and mobile wallet options
  • Highly rated app: 4.9 stars on the App Store and 4.8 on Google Play
  • Support in 18 languages, including Spanish
  • Exchange rate margin varies a lot by route, and on USD to MXN it was over 3% in our test
  • Express transfers paid by card can carry fees, and credit card issuers may add cash advance charges
  • Sending only: you cannot hold balances in many currencies the way you can with a multi-currency account
  • New-customer offers make the first transfer look cheaper than later ones
  • No branch network, so support is phone, chat and email only

What Is Remitly?

Remitly is a digital money transfer company founded in Seattle in 2011 and listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker RELY. It does not run branches. Everything happens in the Remitly app or on Remitly.com, and the money is paid out through banks, mobile wallet providers and cash pickup partners in each destination country.

Remitly makes money in two ways, and both are disclosed before you pay. It charges a transfer fee on some routes and speeds, and it earns a margin between the exchange rate it gets and the rate it gives you. The user agreement says this plainly: Remitly "may make money" from the difference between the rate it buys currency at and the rate shown to you. That is normal for a remittance company. What matters is how big that margin is, which is what our fee tests measure.

You can currently send from 33 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, most of the EU and the UAE, to more than 175 countries. Recipients can be paid in several ways:

  • Bank deposit: money lands directly in the recipient's bank account, often in minutes on major routes.
  • Mobile wallet: popular in the Philippines, Kenya and parts of Africa and Asia, for example GCash in the Philippines.
  • Cash pickup: the recipient collects cash at a partner location with ID. Useful when the recipient has no bank account.
  • Home delivery: available in a few markets, where cash is delivered to the door.

So how does Remitly work behind the scenes? It keeps money with local banks and payout partners in each destination country and pays your recipient from there, while you pay Remitly in your own currency at home. That is why a Remitly money transfer can arrive in minutes without travelling through a chain of banks.

If you are new to sending money home, our explainer on what a remittance is covers the basics, and our guide to Remitly international money transfers walks through the sending process in more detail.

Remitly Express vs Economy: What Is the Difference?

Every Remitly money transfer comes in two speeds, and the choice changes what you pay. Remitly Express is funded by a debit or credit card and usually arrives in minutes. Remitly Economy is funded from your bank account and typically takes 3 to 5 business days, because Remitly waits for the bank payment to clear before paying out.

On many routes Economy is cheaper, either through a lower fee, a better exchange rate or both. Express costs more because Remitly is fronting the money before your bank payment settles. Remitly shows both options side by side, with the exact fee, rate and delivery time, before you confirm.

The rule of thumb is simple. If your family needs the money today, use Express and pay a little more. If you are sending a regular monthly amount and can plan ahead by a few days, Economy usually gets more money home.

What Is the Remitly App?

The Remitly app is where most customers send, track and repeat transfers. It is available on iOS and Android, and Remitly reports a 4.9 star rating from more than 4.5 million App Store ratings and 4.8 stars from more than 1.4 million Google Play ratings. Those are unusually high scores for a financial app.

The app saves your recipients, shows the full cost and delivery time before you send, and sends status updates as the money moves. Recipients can also get notifications so they know when to expect the money. In select countries, Remitly now offers a wallet where customers can hold digital dollars (USDC) and spend them with a debit card.

Fees & Exchange Rates

8.5 /10

In this Remitly money transfer review, we rated Remitly a solid 8.5/10 for fees and exchange rates. On the biggest remittance routes Remitly is one of the cheapest options available, sometimes cheaper than Wise. On a few routes its exchange rate margin is wide enough that other services deliver more money, so it pays to check the quote every time.

Remitly Exchange Rates: How Close to Mid-Market?

The mid-market exchange rate is the real rate you see on Google or Reuters, halfway between the buy and sell price. Banks and most transfer companies give you a worse rate and keep the difference. Remitly does too, but on many routes its margin is very small.

To measure it, we used live quotes collected on 20 October 2026 by Wise's public price comparison, which checks each provider's pricing on the same day. The Remitly exchange rate margin below is how far Remitly's rate sat from the mid-market rate on each route:

Two things stand out. On India, Remitly's rate was almost the same as the mid-market rate and there was no fee at all. On Mexico, the margin was more than 3%, which is close to what a bank charges. The Remitly exchange rate is not one number. It depends on the route, the amount and the speed you choose.

Remitly locks the Remitly exchange rate when you confirm the transfer, and the exact amount your recipient will get is on the confirmation screen and your receipt. New customers are often offered a promotional rate on part of their first transfer, so check what the normal rate is before you judge Remitly on the first send alone.

Remitly Fees: What You Actually Pay

Remitly fees depend on four things: the route, the amount, Express or Economy, and how you pay. On high-volume routes the fee is often zero for larger amounts, as it was on USD to INR and GBP to INR in our test. On other routes there is a small flat fee, such as $1.99 on $500 to Mexico or €2.99 on €1,000 from the eurozone to the US.

Paying by card is where costs can creep up. Remitly may charge more for card-funded Express transfers, and some credit card issuers treat a money transfer as a cash advance, which means an extra fee and interest from the day you pay. If you plan to use a card, read our guide to sending money with a credit card first.

US senders should know about the 1% federal remittance tax that started on 1 January 2026. It applies to transfers paid with cash, a money order or a cashier's check. Remitly transfers are funded by bank account or card, so they normally fall outside it.

There are no hidden Remitly fees in the sense of charges that appear after you pay. The fee and the exchange rate are both shown before you confirm. The one cost Remitly cannot control is a charge from the recipient's bank, which is rare for local bank deposits but can happen.

How Remitly Compares to Your Bank

Banks lose on almost every route we checked, and they lose through the exchange rate rather than the fee. Chase and Wells Fargo both priced USD to INR more than 3% below the mid-market rate. In the UK, Barclays gave ₹123,393 for £1,000 and Lloyds gave ₹120,986 after a £9.50 fee, while Remitly gave ₹126,553. That is about £25 more than Barclays and £44 more than Lloyds on a single transfer.

Over a year of monthly transfers, that gap is several hundred pounds or dollars. Our breakdown of international wire transfer fees shows how banks layer a flat fee on top of a weak rate, and why the rate is usually the bigger cost.

Where Remitly Is Not the Cheapest

Being honest about this is what makes the rest of the review useful. On $500 from the US to Mexico, Remitly delivered MX$8,864. Wise delivered MX$9,037 and Western Union MX$9,081. That is a gap of roughly $9 to $12 on one transfer, all of it from Remitly's 3.4% rate margin on that route.

From the eurozone to the US, Wise also came out ahead, by about $4.80 on €1,000. If you send on routes like these, compare before every transfer. Our page on the best way to send money from the US to Mexico compares live quotes on that route, and our guide to the cheapest international money transfer covers the other options.

Transfer Speed

8.0 /10

In our Remitly money transfer review, we rated Remitly a solid 8/10 for transfer speed. Express transfers usually arrive in minutes on major routes, and Remitly backs its delivery times with a refund of its fees if it is late. Economy is slower because it waits for your bank payment to clear, which is why speed is not a perfect 10.

How Long Does Remitly Take?

A Remitly Express transfer funded by debit card typically reaches a bank account, mobile wallet or cash pickup point within minutes on the busiest routes, including India, the Philippines and Mexico. A Remitly Economy transfer funded by bank account typically takes 3 to 5 business days.

Before you pay, Remitly shows an exact delivery date and time, and it repeats it on your receipt. Under its delivery promise, if the money arrives after that time you can ask Remitly to refund the fees it charged for that transfer. Most banks give you no delivery time at all for an international wire, let alone a refund when it is late.

Why Remitly Is Faster Than a Bank Wire

A bank wire usually travels over SWIFT, passing through one or more correspondent banks before it reaches the recipient's bank. Each one can add a day and take a fee. That is why a wire transfer can take anywhere from one to five business days.

Remitly works differently:

  1. You pay Remitly in your own currency, by card or bank transfer, inside your own country's payment system.
  2. Remitly already holds money in the destination country with local banks and payout partners.
  3. It pays your recipient from that local money over the domestic payment system, such as IMPS or UPI in India, InstaPay in the Philippines or SPEI in Mexico.
  4. No money crosses a border at the moment of your transfer, so there is no chain of intermediary banks to wait for.

This is the same model the fastest services use, and it is why our guide to the fastest way to send money internationally ranks Remitly near the top for urgent transfers.

What Slows a Remitly Transfer Down

Most delays come from a handful of predictable causes:

  • Funding method: Economy waits for your bank payment to clear, which adds days.
  • Identity checks: a first transfer, a large amount or a sudden change in sending pattern can trigger a verification request before the money moves.
  • Recipient details: a name that does not match the recipient's bank account or ID will stop the payout until it is fixed.
  • Bank holidays and cut-off times: in either country, these can push a bank deposit to the next business day.
  • Your Remitly transfer limit: a transfer above your current limit will not go through until you verify more details, such as photo ID or the source of the funds.
  • Compliance reviews: like every licensed money transmitter, Remitly must screen transfers for fraud and money laundering, and some are held for review.

The estimated delivery time on the confirmation screen already allows for the usual timing on your route, so a delay beyond it usually means one of the checks above.

Safety & Trust

10 /10

In our Remitly money transfer review, we awarded Remitly a perfect 10/10 for safety and trust. It is licensed or authorised in every major market it operates in, it is a public company that reports to US securities regulators, and its customer ratings are excellent.

Is Remitly Safe?

Yes, Remitly is safe. In the United States, Remitly, Inc. is registered with the US Treasury as a money services business and holds state money transmitter licences, and it is authorised to transmit money in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. In the UK, Remitly U.K., Ltd is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority as an Electronic Money Institution, FCA Register No. 1047222. In the EU, Remitly Europe Limited is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.

Those licences come with real obligations. Money transmitters in the US must meet state bonding and net worth requirements and are examined by state regulators. E-money institutions in the UK and EU must safeguard customer money, keeping it separate from the company's own funds. Remitly must also run anti-money laundering checks, which is why it asks for ID and sometimes for proof of where the money comes from.

If safety is your main concern, our guide to the safest way to send money internationally explains what to look for in any provider.

Is Remitly Legit or a Scam?

Remitly is legit. It has operated since 2011, it is listed on the Nasdaq, and it publishes audited results every quarter. A scam would not hold FCA authorisation or licences from US state regulators.

What does happen is that fraudsters ask victims to pay them through Remitly, just as they do with bank transfers and gift cards. Once a transfer has been paid out, it usually cannot be reversed. Only send money to people you know and have met, never to someone you only know online who asks for money urgently. If you have already sent money to the wrong person, our guide on getting money back from the wrong account explains your options.

How Remitly Protects Your Money

Protection comes from both regulation and Remitly's own rules:

  • Cancellation rights: under the US remittance transfer rule, you can cancel within 30 minutes of paying and get a full refund, as long as the money has not been picked up or deposited.
  • Error resolution: if the wrong amount arrives or the money never arrives, US senders have a legal right to an investigation and refund under federal rules, which Remitly sets out in its error resolution disclosures.
  • Safeguarding: in the UK and EU, customer money must be held separately from Remitly's own funds.
  • Account security: encryption, multi-factor sign-in and fraud monitoring on transfers.
  • Delivery promise: a fee refund if your transfer is late.

Is Remitly a Bank?

No, Remitly is not a bank. It is a licensed money transmitter in the US and an e-money institution in the UK and EU. It does not offer loans in the way a bank does or hold your savings in an account covered by deposit insurance such as FDIC or FSCS protection.

That does not make it less safe for sending money. A transfer usually sits with Remitly for minutes or days, not months, and while it does, the protections above apply. The difference only matters if you plan to keep a balance, which is not what most people use Remitly for.

Remitly Reviews and Reputation

Customer opinion is strongly positive. On Trustpilot, Remitly reviews from real customers averaged 4.6 out of 5, rated "Excellent", from more than 120,000 reviews in October 2026. App store scores are even higher, at 4.9 on iOS and 4.8 on Android.

The negative Remitly reviews that do appear tend to follow the same few patterns: transfers held for identity checks, first transfers taking longer than expected, and limits that are lower than customers want until their account is fully verified. Those are frustrating, but they are the checks a licensed company is required to run, not signs of a problem with the service.

Service & Quality

9.0 /10

In our Remitly review, Remitly earns a 9/10 rating for service and quality, driven by a top-rated app, a clear transfer flow and delivery options built around how recipients actually receive money. It stops short of a 10 because support is remote only and verification holds can be slow to resolve.

Overall Service Quality: Built Around the Recipient

Most money transfer services are designed around the sender. Remitly is designed around the person receiving the money. That shows in the delivery options, which include bank deposit, cash pickup, mobile wallets and home delivery in some markets, and in recipient notifications that tell the family when the money is on its way.

Pricing is shown upfront: the fee, the exchange rate, the amount the recipient gets and the delivery time all appear before you confirm. You can repeat a past transfer in a few taps, which matters when you send the same amount home every month.

Remitly App Review: Fast, Simple and Highly Rated

The Remitly app is the main way people use the service, and it is one of the best rated finance apps on either store. Its key features include:

  • Saved recipients: send again to the same person without re-entering bank or wallet details.
  • Live tracking: see when the money is funded, sent and delivered.
  • Recipient alerts: the person receiving the money can be notified when it arrives.
  • Express or Economy choice: both options shown side by side with cost and timing.
  • Wallet: in select countries, hold digital dollars (USDC) and spend them with a debit card.

If you want to see how it stacks up against other apps, our ranking of the best apps for international money transfers compares the main options.

Remitly Customer Service

Remitly offers support by phone and in-app chat, with help in 18 languages, including Spanish. There is also a help centre that covers most common questions about limits, delivery times and verification.

For formal complaints, US customers can email [email protected] or call 1-844-604-0924, the contact details listed in the Remitly user agreement. You can also contact your state's money transmitter regulator if a complaint is not resolved.

The main criticism of Remitly customer service is around verification. When a transfer is held for an identity check, customers sometimes have to upload documents more than once before it is released. That is the most common theme in negative reviews.

Remitly Business, Remitly One and Remitly Flex

Remitly has grown beyond personal remittances. Remitly Business lets companies pay suppliers, contractors and staff abroad, with business customers and recipients supported in more than 170 countries and payment by bank account, debit card or credit card.

Remitly One is a paid membership for select US customers, launched in September 2025 at $9.99 a month. At launch it bundled faster access to Remitly Flex, an interest-free advance that lets you send now and repay later, with a Remitly debit card and a wallet. Members with frequent transfers may find it worthwhile, but most occasional senders do not need it. If you are considering Flex, treat it as borrowing and make sure you can repay on time.

Final verdict

Remitly review breakdown

Overall score across our four categories

8.5

After a full end-to-end analysis for this Remitly review, the conclusion is clear: Remitly is one of the best ways to send money to family abroad, and on its strongest routes it is the cheapest option we found. It earns 8.5 out of 10 overall, with a perfect score for safety, 9 for service, 8.5 for cost and 8 for speed.

Its edge is structural. Remitly pays out locally in each destination country instead of sending money over SWIFT, so it is faster than a bank and can price close to the mid-market rate. The weakness is that its pricing is not uniform. On some routes its rate margin is wide, which is why we recommend checking the quote every time rather than assuming Remitly is always the cheapest.

Is Remitly Worth It?

For most people sending money home, yes. Remitly is worth using if you:

  • send regular remittances to India, the Philippines, Pakistan or similar high-volume routes
  • need money to arrive in minutes and can pay by debit card
  • send to someone who needs cash pickup or a mobile wallet rather than a bank account
  • want a guaranteed delivery time with a fee refund if it is late

It is less suited to:

  • routes where its rate margin is wide, such as USD to MXN in our test
  • people who want to hold and manage balances in several currencies
  • large business payments where a specialist with dedicated account managers may suit better

Remitly vs Wise and Xe

Remitly and Wise are close competitors, and which is cheaper depends on the route. In our tests Remitly won on USD to INR, GBP to INR and USD to PHP, while Wise won on USD to MXN and EUR to USD. Wise uses the mid-market rate and charges a visible fee, while Remitly builds most of its cost into the rate. Read our full Wise review and Xe review if you want to compare all three, or start with the Remitly vs Wise comparison for a route-by-route breakdown.

How Does Remitly Work? Step by Step

Step 1: Create your Remitly account

Download the Remitly app or go to Remitly.com and sign up with your email or phone number. Remitly will ask for your name, address and date of birth, and for larger amounts it will ask for a photo ID. This is a legal requirement for licensed money transmitters, and completing it upfront avoids holds later.

Step 2: Choose where the money is going and how much

Select the destination country and enter the amount, either in your currency or in the amount the recipient should receive. Remitly shows the exchange rate, the fee and the total cost straight away, so you can see the full price before you commit to anything.

Step 3: Pick Remitly Express or Economy

Choose Express if speed matters and you will pay by card, or Economy if you can wait a few days and pay from your bank account. Remitly shows both side by side with their fees, rates and delivery times, which makes the trade-off easy to see.

Step 4: Add your recipient

Enter the recipient's details exactly as they appear on their bank account or ID: full name, plus bank account, mobile wallet number or cash pickup location. Most delays come from names that do not match, so this is the step to take care with.

Step 5: Pay and confirm

Pay by debit card, credit card or bank account and confirm. Your rate is locked at this point, and your receipt shows the exact amount the recipient will get and the guaranteed delivery time. In the US you can still cancel within 30 minutes if the money has not been paid out.

Step 6: Track until it arrives

Follow the transfer in the app until it is delivered. If it arrives later than the time on your receipt, contact Remitly to request a refund of its fees under the delivery promise.

Remitly Review: Bottom Line

Banks make most of their money on international transfers through the exchange rate, usually 2% to 4% below mid-market, plus a wire fee and slow SWIFT delivery. Remitly avoids both problems on its main routes. On $1,000 to India, that difference was about ₹3,400 more for the recipient compared with Chase, on a single transfer.

For someone sending $500 home every month, a 3% saving is around $180 a year. Over several years of supporting family, that is real money, and it is the main reason to switch away from a bank.

Remitly is not the right tool for every transfer, and on a few routes other services give more. But for sending money to family abroad quickly, safely and cheaply on the routes it serves best, it remains one of the strongest options available. Before every transfer, take a minute to check the quote against one alternative. That habit alone saves more than any single provider choice.

Frequently asked questions

What is Remitly?

Remitly is a digital money transfer company, founded in Seattle in 2011 and listed on the Nasdaq as RELY. It lets people in 33 countries send money to more than 175 countries through its app and website. Recipients can get the money by bank deposit, mobile wallet, cash pickup or, in some markets, home delivery. Customers sent $74.9 billion through Remitly in 2025.

Is Remitly safe?

Yes, Remitly is safe. It is registered with the US Treasury as a money services business and licensed by state regulators across the US, authorised by the FCA in the UK and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland in the EU. Those licences require it to safeguard customer money, run fraud and anti-money laundering checks and meet capital requirements. It is also a public company that reports audited results every quarter.

Is Remitly legit?

Yes, Remitly is a legitimate, regulated company that has been operating since 2011. It has 9.3 million active customers and a 4.6 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot from more than 120,000 reviews. The legitimacy question usually comes from people who have been asked by a stranger to pay through Remitly. The company is legit, but scammers can still ask you to use it, so only send money to people you know.

Is Remitly a scam?

No, Remitly is not a scam. It is licensed in all 50 US states, authorised by the FCA and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. Scams involving Remitly are cases where a fraudster persuades someone to send them money through it, often through romance, job or investment schemes. Once money is paid out it is usually hard to recover, so never send money to someone you have not met in person.

Is Remitly a bank?

No, Remitly is not a bank. It is a licensed money transmitter in the US and an e-money institution in the UK and EU, so it does not hold savings or offer deposit insurance like FDIC or FSCS. For sending money that makes little difference, because your money only sits with Remitly while the transfer is in progress. During that time, licensing and safeguarding rules apply.

How does Remitly work?

You choose a destination, enter an amount and pick Express or Economy. You add your recipient, pay by card or bank account, and Remitly pays your recipient from money it already holds in their country, using local payment systems. Because no money has to travel through correspondent banks at that moment, transfers can arrive in minutes. The fee, rate and delivery time are all shown before you confirm.

How much does Remitly charge?

Remitly fees depend on the route, amount, speed and payment method. In our October 2026 test, Remitly charged $0 to send $1,000 to India, £0 to send £1,000 from the UK to India, $1.99 on $500 to Mexico and €2.99 on €1,000 from the eurozone to the US. Remitly also earns a margin on the exchange rate, which ranged from 0.11% to 3.41% on those routes. The total cost is always shown before you pay.

What exchange rate does Remitly use?

The Remitly exchange rate is set by Remitly and includes a margin above the mid-market rate. The size of that margin varies by route: in our tests it was just 0.11% on USD to INR but 3.41% on USD to MXN. The rate is locked when you confirm and shown on your receipt, along with the exact amount your recipient will get. New customers often get a better promotional rate on their first transfer.

Does Remitly have hidden fees?

No, Remitly shows its fee and exchange rate before you confirm, and the recipient amount on your receipt is what they get. The cost that is easy to miss is the exchange rate margin, because it is built into the rate rather than shown as a fee. Your card issuer may also charge cash advance fees if you pay by credit card, which Remitly does not control. Rarely, a recipient's bank may charge to receive the money.

What is the difference between Remitly Express and Economy?

Remitly Express is paid by debit or credit card and usually arrives in minutes. Remitly Economy is paid from your bank account and typically takes 3 to 5 business days. Economy is often cheaper because Remitly does not have to front the money before your payment clears. Both options are shown side by side with fees and delivery times before you send.

How long does Remitly take?

Remitly Express transfers typically arrive within minutes on major routes such as India, the Philippines and Mexico. Remitly Economy transfers typically take 3 to 5 business days. Remitly shows an exact delivery date and time before you pay, and your first transfer or a large amount may take longer if Remitly needs to verify your identity. Bank holidays in either country can also add a day.

What happens if my Remitly transfer is late?

Remitly gives a delivery date and time before you send and on your receipt. Under its delivery promise, if the money arrives after that time you can ask Remitly to refund the fees you paid for the transfer. You need to contact Remitly to request the refund. If the money never arrives at all, US senders also have error resolution rights under federal law.

Can I cancel a Remitly transfer?

Yes, in many cases. In the US, the federal remittance transfer rule lets you cancel within 30 minutes of paying and get a full refund, as long as the money has not been picked up or deposited. After that, you can still ask Remitly to cancel if the transfer has not been paid out. Refunds go back to the card or bank account you paid with.

What is the Remitly transfer limit?

Remitly sets sending limits per account, and your Remitly transfer limit depends on your country, the destination and how much identity verification you have completed. New accounts start with lower limits, and Remitly raises them when you provide more information, such as photo ID and details about the source of your funds. Your current limit is shown in the app. If you need to send a very large amount, contact Remitly before you start.

Can I use a credit card with Remitly?

Yes, Remitly accepts debit cards, credit cards and bank accounts in most sending countries. A credit card funds an Express transfer, so it arrives quickly, but many card issuers treat it as a cash advance with an extra fee and interest from day one. Remitly may also charge more for card payments on some routes. A debit card or bank account is usually the cheaper choice.

Does Remitly offer cash pickup?

Yes, Remitly offers cash pickup in many countries through partner locations such as banks, money exchanges and stores. The recipient brings a valid ID that matches the name on the transfer and collects the cash. It is a good option for recipients without a bank account. Check which pickup partners are available in the recipient's town before you send.

Almost always. In our tests, US and UK banks priced their exchange rates 2.7% to 3.7% below the mid-market rate, and some added a wire fee on top. On $1,000 to India, Remitly delivered about ₹3,400 more than Chase. For regular senders, that difference adds up to hundreds of dollars a year.
